I have been mulling over the idea of family travel as I am a firm believer in travel. For a person, travel brings out the ignorance of the other, as well as the fear of the other, which we generally have. I have been to a lovely places in India and outside India with family and on professional front.
Cappadocia was on my to do list for long. But, I had to work the budget for four of us for stay, food and air travel from New Delhi to Istanbul as well as local sight seeing. We plan our vacations, coinciding with school vacations. The child learns a lot when he travels, same as adults. We experience new cultures, cuisines and travel is a window to showcase a new way of life, which might be very different from ours.
The budget for such a trip had to be worked out, keeping in mind the air fares, hotel and local sightseeing analysis at least five months in advance from our day of travel. I would credit two individuals without whom this trip would not have been possible, whom I havent met in person. They are Ben Schlappig who has got an amazing treasure trove of info on cheap travel and travel hacks through credit cards and airmiles https://onemileatatime.com/ and Siddharth for all users from India https://www.cardexpert.in/. These two websites almost took care of 30 to 40% of my flight/hotel costs depending on our flexibility as a family.
Travel as such is a great teacher. It shapes our personality and brings us out of our comfort zones. I have become a better person with every trip both as a working professional and a doting mother.
For those, who are wary of using credit cards, I would just like to tell you that,if you use your cards wisely, you can take your family on international destinations for ease. I got all the inputs, advice and how to from the above mentioned websites. I have HDFC’s Diners Black card and it had rewarded me and my family with these amazing memories. I urge you to go through these websites and post your queries in the comments, I shall be happy to respond. I shall post in detail, as to how to make your first international trip with family in my next post.
